Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Routes

(Coca-Cola Route)

  • Scenery: This route offers a unique landscape, passing through beautiful forests and alpine meadows.

  • Difficulty: Easier in terms of terrain,  but the shorter duration can make acclimatization more difficult.

  • Duration: Can be completed in 5-6 days.

1. Marangu Route

(Whiskey Route)

  • Scenery: Known for its stunnig views, the Machame Route takes trekkers through lush rainforests, moorlands and alpine deserts.

  • Difficulty: It's considered one of the more challenging routes due to steep and demanding terrain, but it provides great acclimatization opportunities.

  • Duration: Typically takes 6-7 days to reach the summit.

2. Machame Route

  • Scenery: Lemosho is known for its scenic beauty and wildlife sigtings. It approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, offering diverse landscapes.

  • Difficulty: It offers a good balance between acclimatization and chalenging terrain, making it a popular choice.

  • Duration: Usually takes 7-8 days for a succesful ascent.

3. Lemosho Route

  • Scenery: Starting from the north, this route provides a unique perspective and a quieter trek.

  • Difficulty: Generally considered one of the easier routes, with gentle slopes.

  • Duration: Typically completed in 6-7 days.

4. Rongai Route

  • Scenery: Starting from the north, this route provides a unique perspective and a quieter trek.

  • Difficulty: Generally considered one of the easier routes, with gentle slopes.

  • Duration: Typically completed in 9-10 days.

5. Northern
Circuit Route

  • Scenery: A challenging route known for its steep and direct approach. Offers unique views, but is reccomended for experienced climbers.

  • Difficulty: Considered one fo the most difficult routes due to its steep terrain and quick ascent.

  • Duration: Typically completed in 6-7 days.

6. Umbwe Route

  • Scenery: Similar to Lemosho, Shira also starts from the wetsern side of the mountain, providing diverse landscapes and magnificent views.

  • Difficulty: Can be challenging due to rapid altitude gain. It's often combined with the Lemosho route.

  • Duration: Takes 7-8 days for a succesfull ascent.

7. Shira Route

  • The choice of the route should consider your trekking experience, desired duration and the kind of scenery and acclimatization you prefer. It's essential to go with a well-equipped crew that has the proper gear and experienced guides and porters to ensure a safe and enjoyable Kilimanjaro climbing adventure.
